Vax Commercial VCC-08A Bagged Vacuum Cleaner, Just don’t call him Henry

A good choice for commercial premises. . The vax commercial vcc-08a bagged vacuum cleaner is, as you would imagine designed for the commercial market. However we all know that quite a few of these end up in the domestice homes (a la henrys and the like)thanks to eec laws it is a mere 800 watts power but has a high 9 litre capacity. It takes bags and these cost around a pound each at the time of writing. You get them in packs of ten for £9. The acid test is it any good.

It is sturdy, stable, quiet and has good suction. I am not sure it is ‘ultra’ lightweight, but it is light enough to move around easily. I have used it on industrial type carpet and vinyl flooring, as well as on upholstery, and it works very well. I have not tried it on domestic carpets but have not found any powerful vacuum cleaner every good for these as, if the suction is good enough, they are just too hard to push around. I agree with another reviewer that the pricing is a little odd. Not only is it competing against other makes but seems to be competing against other vax products which, on paper, seem cheaper, more powerful, or both.

Use it for cleaning my car with the crevice tool which is brilliant. The machine is very easy to pull around as lightweight, great suction on carpets and hard floors when i use the carpet brush. It has an extremely long flexible hose so i can do most of my stairs by putting the base unit at the bottom and cleaning almost to the top. The machine is very well made with a carry handle, fairly quiet motor and runs on castors so very easy to pull along. There are clips to undo the top of the machine and just empty the dust bag. It comes in bright orange heavy duty plastic with contrasting black for handles etc and i believe is it is as good as or better than a ‘henry’. My car has never looked so clean inside and even manages to suck up the sand without too much effort.

I never thought i would say this , but this is as good as my henry and also has a good suction and stays on its wheels when in use. I like the way it follows behind and really gets all the dirt. I had to experiment with different settings so that the powerful suction when using the carpet tool,doesn’t suck the carpet up. I like this and henry is having a rest nowadays. The bags are available for about a pound.

After using for a while the battery powered ones, this is like one of those old school vacuums, just sucks and sucks like nobody’s business. It’s so powerful i need to open the twisty thing at the top to let some of the pressure out, as otherwise you can barely move it along the carpet. Well it’s just the position of the nozzle which attaches to the poles. It’s where you would place your hands, so easily comes off. However this is resolved by positioning your hands a little higher up.

      For an 800 watt unit, this really packs a powerful punch (well, suck i guess, but you know what i mean. ) after popping it together in a few minutes (assembly is very straight forward and intuitive) i was surprised to find that at the maximum setting, it was sucking to the carpet so strongly i couldn’t move it. But readjusting it was no issue at all and i had soon found a comfortable setting. While it is lightweight for it’s size, i don’t think it’s exactly accurate to say that it is truly lightweight. However, though this makes it a bit more cumbersome for lugging up stairs and such, it also means that it is a more stable unit and less likely to tip over. It is a bagged unit, but the bags cost roughly £10/10 so it’s not an especially painful extra expense. This is a really good medium/heavy duty unit and for just over £100, really is good value.

Not to bang on about it, it’s limited to an 800w motor, due to eu regulations, but it’s plenty powerful and actually comes with a quiet mode so it can be used around a waiting room without causing too much of a disturbance. We’re very much looking at that friendly-faced, named vacuum cleaner as its main rival, and it is slightly more powerful, but i have both and there isn’t much to choose between them. I blow() hot and cold about bagged vacuum cleaners and they definitely have their uses – particularly in a work environment were a sealed bag won’t have anyone complaining about their asthma when it has to be emptied. I’m sure we all remember that first time we emptied a bagless vac into our yard bin when it was blowing a gale. Decent, rugged product which does a good job. I wouldn’t recommend it for the home as their are more versatile machines to be had, but it would definitely suit a workshop where it’s going to have to stand a lot of abuse.

    The vax commercial vcc-08a bagged vacuum cleaner is a power and easy-to-use a-grade efficient cleaner. The 800w motor gives plenty of suction which can be adjusted by opening an closing the vent on the hose. The vax comes with an extra-long power cable, long flexible hose, solid metal handle, telescopic attachments, brush head and long head,it is all very well packed and easy to assemble. I deliberately didn’t use the instructions to see how easy it would be to get it working. It was very easy and i was happily vacuuming around within 5 minutes. The bag is 9 litres so ample for long periods of cleaning. There is also a ‘hush’ button which makes the cleaner less powerful but much quieter. Although it’s not horribly noisy even when in the normal mode. I was a fan of the cylinder bagless variety of vacuum but this vax is very impressive and easy to use.

I was a little bit hesitant about trying the vax commercial vacuum cleaner having not had the greatest of experiences with their domestic vacuum cleaners. I am delighted to say that this commercial version has been a much better experience for me. It is a solid, workhorse of the cleaner that does the job. Inside the box are the main cleaner with one fitted dust bag, a 2. 5 metre flexible extension hose, three parts of the extension tube (one of which has a clip to hold the dust and crevice tool), a very long 12. 5 metre powerflex, one crevice tool, one dusting brush tool and one main cleaning head suitable for carpets and hard floors. There is also a small user guide booklet in english and a registration card. The cleaner comes complete with one fitted dust bag. The dust bag is large and has a 9 litre capacity.

    We have had many very expensive vacuums over the years including a 440 pound dyson but this vax is better and here is why.       Excellent straightforward machine. I wanted this vac for my work, cleaning an office suite, and for home use too. I have used vax machines for 25 years and was interested to see if this one lived up to the name. It took only 5 minutes with the very clear and detailed instructions to do the minimal amount of assembly necessary, interestingly it has a “kettle type” cord which is separate from the machine and can be unplugged and replaced if damaged. It fits to the machine and is held by a loop and peg arrangement like you find on lawnmovers and strimmers, such a simple fix but means that replacement of a damaged cable is a simple swap rather than an electrical job. The disc shaped filter clips inside the tub lid and two sturdy looking clips hold the lid on. There is a solid handle across the top, which makes it easy to lift and carry, and it is considerably lighter than the henry. (under 5kg to henry at over 8kg)i plugged it in to a socket, and fitted the floor head, with the lever pressed to retract the brush underneath. To start with, (i had closed the flow adjuster in the metal tube completely) the suction was so high that the head wouldn’t move on the carpet at all, but with a bit of twiddling i soon found a happy medium. If you get too much resistance, a simple valve opens on the tub lid to reduce the pressure, so you know when you have got too much “suck”.
